The Charleroi-Brussels canal: from Anderlecht to Molenbeek-Saint-Jean.
Guided walk at 2pm and 4pm
This old coal canal, opened in 1832 but planned a long time before, made a substantial contribution to making Brussels the largest industrial city in the country and its largest work centre in the 19th century! A big slaughterhouse and a variety of factories, including breweries, flour mills, etc., grew up in the Anderlecht district and brought great economic prosperity at the time! What about today? These districts are under a Regional Masterplan to coordinate renovations and new projects that should enable new production activities, housing and attractive spaces to cohabit harmoniously. Europe is also investing in it. During the walk, we will see what the future holds for this water course and the stake the city has in it.
